															HALLMARKING AT DE VERE DIAMONDS
A hallmark is your guarantee of authenticity. It’s an official stamp applied by one of the four UK Assay Offices that confirms:
- The precious metal content (gold, platinum, palladium, or silver).
- That the item has been independently tested and verified.
- That it complies with the UK Hallmarking Act 1973.
When you see a hallmark, you know your jewellery is genuine and has been certified to the highest standard.
Why Does It Matter?
Hallmarking protects you as a consumer. It ensures that when you buy a piece described as 18ct gold or platinum 950, it truly is what it claims to be. At De Vere Diamonds, we believe transparency is as important as beauty, which is why every piece is tested and hallmarked before it reaches you.
The Dealer’s Notice
UK law requires every jeweller to display the official Dealer’s Notice explaining hallmarking.
This notice explains what each part of a hallmark means and how you can read it.

Below is the De Vere Diamonds registered mark, also known as our Sponsor’s Mark. All our jewellery items must legally carry this mark.

What You’ll See on Your Jewellery
Each hallmark applied to De Vere Diamonds jewellery contains:
- Sponsor’s Mark – our unique registered maker’s mark.
- Metal Fineness Mark – e.g., 750 for 18ct gold, 950 for platinum.
- Assay Office Mark – the symbol of the Assay Office that tested and hallmarked the piece (London, Birmingham, Sheffield, or Edinburgh).
- Optional Marks – such as a date letter or commemorative symbol.
Exemptions
By law, very small items below certain weights do not require a hallmark:
- Gold & Palladium: below 1g
- Platinum: below 0.5g
- Silver: below 7.78g
Even where exempt, De Vere Diamonds will never misdescribe an item’s metal content.
Our Commitment
At De Vere Diamonds, hallmarking is part of our promise of luxury you can believe in. It reflects our commitment to:
- Transparency – you always know what you are buying.
- Trust – every piece is independently verified.
- Excellence – combining heritage craftsmanship with the highest legal standards.
