Turn over a piece of fine British jewellery and you’ll find a few tiny marks. They are easy to miss, but they mean something.
Together, they are a hallmark: independent, legal proof that the metal is exactly what we say it is.
WHAT IT TELLS YOU
Every piece of De Vere jewellery is tested by an independent UK Assay Office and stamped with:
Our mark. The De Vere Diamonds sponsor’s mark, registered with the London Assay Office. It shows who made the piece.
The metal. A number confirming its purity, such as 750 for 18ct gold or 950 for platinum.
The Assay Office. The symbol of the office that tested it: London, Birmingham, Sheffield or Edinburgh.
The year. A date letter showing when it was made.
WHY IT MATTERS
Because “18ct gold” should never be a matter of trust. In the UK, it’s a matter of law, under the Hallmarking Act 1973.
And because, long after we’re gone, anyone holding your ring will be able to read who made it, what it is and where it was proven. It’s the jewellery’s own record, written into the metal.
THE DEALER’S NOTICE
By law, every UK jeweller must display the official guide to reading a hallmark. Ours is below.
THE DE VERE DIAMONDS HALLMARK
VERY SMALL PIECES
The law doesn’t require a hallmark on very light items: gold and palladium under 1g, platinum under 0.5g, and silver under 7.78g. Even then, we will always describe the metal exactly as it is.
NO DOUBT. NOT EVEN IN THE METAL.
