RESPONSIBLE SOURCING POLICY

A diamond that marks the happiest moment of a life should carry nothing you would rather not know. This policy sets out what we will and will not buy, and how we check.

Scope. It applies to all diamonds, precious metals and finished jewellery supplied to and by De Vere Diamonds Limited (trading as De Vere Diamonds).

How we are set up. We do not own mines, cutting works or workshops. We buy polished natural diamonds from a short list of certified suppliers, and our settings are made by certified workshop partners in the United Kingdom and India. Our responsibility lies in whom we choose to buy from, so we choose carefully and we publish the list.

Our commitments

1. Natural diamonds from known origins

• We supply only natural diamonds. Nothing laboratory-grown, and no simulant, is ever sold under the De Vere Diamonds name.

• We work only with suppliers who provide traceable, ethically sourced natural diamonds from known sources, including Botswana, Canada and Namibia.

• Every principal diamond is independently graded by the GIA, comes with a GIA Diamond Origin Report, and carries a laser inscription linking it to its records.

• Its journey is recorded on an independent tracing platform. Our supply chain partners use Tracr (through De Beers Sightholders), Sarine, iTraceiT or Authentia, and some use more than one.

• When a diamond or a finished piece reaches us, we verify it again on the platform its supplier used at source.

• Smaller accent diamonds are verified wherever possible. Where one cannot be verified by its own certificate, it is obtained only from our recognised supply chain partners.

• Every rough diamond in our supply chain is certified under the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, and every polished diamond is covered by the World Diamond Council System of Warranties.

• We go beyond those minimums. The Kimberley Process defines a conflict diamond narrowly, so we also apply the OECD guidance described in commitment 5.

• We reject diamonds of Russian origin, and any diamond linked to conflict, human rights abuses or corruption.

• If a supplier cannot show where a principal diamond came from, we do not buy it.

2. Human rights and labour standards

• We support the principles of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the ILO core labour conventions.

• Our suppliers must guarantee:

  • no forced, bonded or child labour;

  • safe and fair working conditions;

  • freedom from discrimination and harassment;

  • fair wages and working hours.

3. Community and social good

• We favour sources that invest in the communities where diamonds are found, especially in Africa and Canada, where many of our diamonds originate.

• We give donations and financial support to organisations that work with mining communities.

• We support the work of Diamonds for Peace, which helps artisanal miners work safely and reach fair markets, and of Diamonds Do Good.

• We favour suppliers whose sources return mined land to nature or to farming, so that local livelihoods continue after a mine closes.

4. Environmental stewardship

• We are committed to reducing environmental impact across our supply chain.

• Our suppliers must:

  • respect land, water and biodiversity;

  • reduce energy use and carbon emissions;

  • manage waste responsibly;

  • contribute to the restoration of ecosystems where mining has taken place.

• We are part of Tree-Nation, through which we fund tree planting and the restoration of habitats affected by climate change. The trees we have planted are projected to capture more CO₂ than our company emits.

• We do not describe ourselves or our diamonds as carbon neutral.

5. Due diligence and traceability

• We apply the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals.

• Every supplier undergoes Know Your Counterparty (KYC), anti-money-laundering (AML) and sanctions checks before we buy from them.

• Every supplier and workshop partner must hold current Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) certification.

• We require documentation to verify origin, traceability and compliance with sanctions and industry standards.

• All gold used in our jewellery is Fairmined or Fairtrade certified where available, and otherwise comes from LBMA-accredited refiners. It is sourced with the same strict due diligence as our diamonds.

• Our workshop partners are registered or licensed with Fairtrade and Fairmined, and we aim to work only with partners who are.

6. Monitoring and accountability

• Suppliers must sign and adhere to our Supply Chain Code of Conduct.

• We rely on the independent audits behind RJC certification, review each supplier’s standing every year, and reserve the right to audit supply chains ourselves. We end the relationship with any supplier who cannot meet our standards.

• We maintain a process for reporting and investigating grievances in our supply chain. Concerns can be raised in confidence at hello@deverediamonds.com.

• This policy is reviewed annually and updated to reflect best practice and the law.

What we cannot promise

No supply chain system can offer absolute certainty, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we can promise is that every record we hold about your diamond is yours to see, in full.

The diamond you choose is more than a symbol of love or celebration. It reflects what you value. When you choose a De Vere diamond, you can be confident that it has been sourced with care for the people and the places along its journey.
