TERMS OF SALE POLICY
Last updated: October 2026
These terms apply to every natural diamond and every piece of jewellery commissioned from De Vere Diamonds, however it is arranged: in person, by video, by telephone, by WhatsApp or by email. They explain how a commission works, what you pay and when, and what your rights are.
Please read them before you pay your deposit. If anything is unclear, ask us. Nothing in these terms reduces the rights the law gives you as a consumer.
1. Who we are
1.1 We are De Vere Diamonds Limited, trading as De Vere Diamonds, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 16212521. Our registered office is 3rd Floor, 45 Albemarle Street, Mayfair, London, W1S 4JL. Our VAT registration number is 514608406.
1.2 You can reach us at hello@deverediamonds.com or on WhatsApp at +44 7428 545849.
1.3 “You” means the person who places the commission. These terms are written for private clients. If you are buying for a business, please tell us, because some of the consumer rights described here will not apply.
1.4 You must be 18 or over to place a commission.
2. How a commission works
2.1 Consultation. Every commission begins with a conversation. There is no cost and no commitment.
2.2 Your diamond selection. We search for you and present a small selection of natural diamonds, usually three to five. Each is shown on film with its GIA grading report and its origin.
2.3 Your quotation. When you have chosen, we send a written quotation. It sets out the diamond, any setting you would like, the price, any taxes and duties, the deposit and an estimated timescale. Each diamond is unique, so we can hold it for you only for the period stated in the quotation.
2.4 Your order. Paying your deposit is your offer to buy on these terms. An acknowledgement that we have received your enquiry or your payment is not our acceptance.
2.5 Our acceptance. A binding contract is formed when we send you a written order confirmation. It repeats the details in your quotation and includes a copy of these terms.
2.6 If we cannot accept. We may decline an order, for example because the diamond is no longer available, because of a pricing error, or because we could not complete the checks in clause 12. If we do, we will refund everything you have paid.
2.7 First Dawn™. A First Dawn™ diamond is commissioned on these same terms.
3. Your diamond
3.1 Every diamond we supply under the De Vere Diamonds name is natural. We do not supply laboratory-grown diamonds or simulants.
3.2 Each principal diamond is independently graded by the GIA and comes with a GIA Diamond Origin Report. Diamonds are graded by cut, colour, clarity and carat weight according to industry standards. Grading is an expert opinion, and results can vary slightly between independent laboratories.
3.3 A natural diamond has natural characteristics. These are part of its identity, they are recorded on its grading report, and they are not faults.
3.4 We take all reasonable care to make sure our descriptions, films, images and specifications are accurate. Colour and scale can look slightly different from one screen and one light to another.
3.5 Smaller accent diamonds in a setting are natural diamonds. We verify them wherever possible. Where an accent diamond cannot be verified by its own certificate, it is obtained only from our recognised supply chain partners. Accent diamonds are matched and described by weight, colour and clarity range.
3.6 Laser inscription. We have each principal diamond inscribed on its girdle with its unique Legacy Vault™ code. The inscription is microscopic, invisible to the eye and permanent. It makes the diamond identifiably yours, and it personalises it to your commission. We will ask you to confirm in writing that you would like us to go ahead before the inscription is made.
3.7 We do not sell diamonds as an investment, and we make no promise about future or resale value.
4. Bespoke settings and jewellery
4.1 If you would like your diamond set, we design the piece with you through sketches and CAD renderings. Nothing is made until you have approved the final design in writing.
4.2 If you ask for changes after approval, we will tell you how they affect the price and the timescale before we go further.
4.3 Every setting is made by hand by our RJC-certified workshop partners. Small differences between the CAD rendering and the finished piece, including in dimensions and metal weight, are a normal part of handmade work.
4.4 Your quotation states the metal and its fineness. Every setting above the legal exemption weight is hallmarked by a UK Assay Office under the Hallmarking Act 1973. Our Hallmarking & Metal Descriptions Policy explains more.
4.5 Please check the ring size you give us. We can resize most rings afterwards, and we will tell you at the design stage if a design cannot be resized.
4.6 We own the intellectual property in our designs, sketches and CAD files. You own the finished piece.
4.7 We may photograph a finished piece before it leaves us, for our records and for its Legacy Vault™. We will always ask your permission before we show your piece or use it in our marketing, and we never name a client or tell their story without permission.
4.8 Your own diamond or jewellery. If you ask us to set or remodel a diamond or a piece you already own, we will assess it first and tell you about any risk we can see. We will take reasonable care of it while it is with us and our workshop partners, and we are responsible for loss or damage caused by our failure to do so. Unsetting and setting stones always carries some inherent risk, so please keep your own insurance in place. A Legacy Vault™ is created only for diamonds chosen through De Vere Diamonds.
5. The Legacy Vault™
5.1 Every diamond chosen through De Vere Diamonds receives its own Legacy Vault™ at no charge. It is opened when the diamond is chosen.
5.2 The Vault belongs to the diamond, not to its setting. For a piece with a centre diamond it follows that diamond. For earrings, bracelets, necklaces and suites it belongs to the piece as a whole.
5.3 Your use of the Vault is governed by the Legacy Vault™ Terms. How we handle what you keep in it is explained in our Privacy Notice. Our long-term commitment to the Vault is set out in our Permanence Statement.
5.4 We recommend that any future setting, resetting or remodelling is done through us, so that the diamond’s identity is verified and its record continues unbroken. If the work is done elsewhere, we may need to verify the diamond again before we can add to its record.
5.5 The Vault preserves the diamond’s provenance and its story. It is not a valuation, an insurance record or a legal register of ownership.
6. Price and payment
6.1 Prices are quoted in pounds sterling. For delivery in the United Kingdom the price includes VAT. UK VAT is not charged on orders we deliver outside the United Kingdom.
6.2 Your quotation shows the cost of insured delivery and states whether the import duties and taxes of the destination country are included. For delivery to India they are included, as explained on our Ordering from India page. Where your quotation does not say they are included, they are payable by you.
6.3 Any figure we give in another currency is an approximate guide. Unless we tell you otherwise before you pay, you are charged in pounds sterling, and your bank’s exchange rate and charges apply.
6.4 A deposit of 50% secures your diamond. The balance is due before dispatch or collection.
6.5 You can pay online by Visa, Mastercard or American Express, or by bank transfer. We do not accept payment in cash. Card payments are processed securely by our payment provider. We do not see or store your full card details.
6.6 Payment must come from you. If someone else is paying, tell us first, because we may need to verify who they are.
6.7 If we discover a pricing error we will tell you. You can then confirm the order at the correct price or cancel it for a full refund.
6.8 The diamond and any setting become yours when we have received payment in full.
6.9 If the balance is not paid within a reasonable time after we tell you your commission is ready, and after we have reminded you in writing, we may treat the commission as cancelled by you under clause 8.3.
7. Timescales and delivery
7.1 Your quotation gives an estimated timescale. A set piece typically takes four to eight weeks from the day you choose your diamond. If a date matters, tell us at the start and we will plan around it.
7.2 Timescales are estimates unless we have agreed a fixed date with you in writing. We are not liable for delays outside our control, and we will tell you promptly if one arises. If we miss a fixed date, or do not deliver within a reasonable further period that you set, you may cancel and receive a full refund.
7.3 We deliver worldwide, subject to sanctions and import restrictions. Delivery to India usually takes 7 to 10 working days from dispatch.
7.4 Every delivery is made by a specialist secure carrier, tracked, and fully insured at our cost until it is signed for by you or by the person you have named to receive it. Risk passes to you at that moment.
7.5 The carrier will ask for a signature and may ask for identification. We cannot deliver to a PO box.
7.6 Please check your delivery when it arrives and tell us as soon as you can if anything is wrong. This helps any insurance claim and does not affect your legal rights.
7.7 You may also collect in London by appointment.
7.8 You are responsible for making sure you may lawfully import your diamond or jewellery into the destination country.
8. Changing your mind
8.1 Before work begins. You can cancel a commission for any reason, and receive a full refund of everything you have paid, at any time before your diamond is inscribed and, for a setting, before production begins. We will tell you before each of those points is reached.
8.2 After work begins. Once your diamond has been inscribed, or production of your setting has begun, it has been personalised or made to your specification. The law does not then give you a right to cancel because you have changed your mind. This includes anything engraved, resized or otherwise altered for you.
8.3 If you still wish to cancel. Tell us and we will do what we fairly can. Once work has begun your deposit is not refundable for a change of mind, except that we will return any part of what you have paid that is more than the costs we have incurred and the loss we suffer. We will take into account anything we can reasonably recover by reselling or reusing the diamond or the materials.
8.4 Anything not personalised. If we supply you at a distance, or away from our premises, with something that has not been inscribed, engraved, resized or made to your specification, you have the right to cancel within 14 days of delivery under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. To use it:
-
tell us in writing within the 14 days, by email or by using the model form at the end of these terms;
-
return the item within 14 days of telling us, in its original, unworn condition, with all its reports, documents and packaging;
-
send it fully insured. Return shipping is at your expense unless the item is faulty or misdescribed. We can arrange an insured collection and tell you the cost first.
8.5 We will refund the price and the cost of standard delivery within 14 days of receiving the item back. We may reduce the refund to reflect any loss in value caused by handling beyond what is needed to establish the item’s nature, characteristics and functioning.
8.6 If you live outside the United Kingdom and the mandatory consumer law of your country gives you greater rights, you keep them.
9. If something is wrong
9.1 Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, what we supply must be as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose.
9.2 If it is faulty, misdescribed or not fit for purpose, you are entitled to:
-
a full refund if you reject it within 30 days of delivery; or
-
after 30 days, a repair or replacement, unless that is impossible or disproportionate; and
-
if a repair or replacement does not put things right, a price reduction or a refund.
9.3 Because every diamond is unique, a replacement means a diamond of equivalent grade and value, chosen with you.
9.4 If the item is faulty or misdescribed, we pay the reasonable cost of returning it.
9.5 Your statutory rights are not affected by anything in these terms. For free independent advice in the United Kingdom, contact the Citizens Advice consumer service on 0808 223 1133.
10. Our guarantee and aftercare
10.1 We guarantee that your diamond and any setting will match their description and will be free from material defects in materials and workmanship when delivered.
10.2 This guarantee does not cover normal wear and tear, accidental damage, misuse, work carried out by anyone else, or a failure to follow the care guidance we give you.
10.3 We are here for the life of your diamond, for cleaning, checking, resizing and future resetting. We may offer complimentary inspections and cleaning at our discretion, and we will always quote for other work before we begin. Clients in India can use our partners there for cleaning and resizing.
10.4 From the moment of delivery your diamond is yours to insure. Your invoice and grading reports are the documents an insurer is most likely to ask for.
10.5 If you give your diamond to someone else, they can rely on this clause as if they had bought it from us.
11. Our responsibility to you
11.1 Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, for breach of your statutory rights, or for anything else that cannot legally be excluded or limited.
11.2 If we fail to comply with these terms, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our failure or of our negligence. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable.
11.3 We supply diamonds and jewellery for private use. We are not liable for loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption, loss of goodwill, or other indirect or consequential loss.
11.4 Subject to clause 11.1, our total liability for any one commission will not exceed the price of that commission.
11.5 We are not liable for a failure or delay caused by events beyond our reasonable control. These include strikes, lockouts, acts of God, war, terrorism, natural disasters, pandemic, embargoes and government restrictions. We will tell you as soon as we can and do what we reasonably can to limit the effect. If the delay is substantial, you may cancel and receive a refund for anything not delivered.
12. Checks, sanctions and compliance
12.1 We will not supply a diamond or jewellery in breach of UK, EU, US or UN sanctions.
12.2 We may cancel an order if payment or delivery would breach sanctions, trade restrictions or origin requirements.
12.3 To meet our legal obligations we may ask you for proof of identity and for information about the source of your funds. We may pause or decline an order until those checks are complete.
13. Complaints
13.1 If you are unhappy with anything, please email hello@deverediamonds.com.
13.2 We acknowledge complaints within 2 working days and aim to resolve them within 14 working days. Our Complaints & ADR Policy explains the process in full.
13.3 If we cannot resolve a dispute, you may ask us to refer it to alternative dispute resolution (ADR). We are not obliged to take part, but we will consider it in good faith. You can also take your complaint to court.
14. Other important terms
14.1 These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may bring proceedings there. If you are a consumer living in another country, you keep any mandatory protection that the law of your country gives you.
14.2 The terms in force on the date of your order confirmation apply to your commission.
14.3 If a court finds part of these terms invalid, the rest continues to apply.
14.4 These terms are written in English. If a translation differs from the English text, the English text applies.
14.5 Our Privacy Notice explains how we use your personal information.
